On the 14th and 15th of October 2006 the largest ever re-enactment of the Battle of Hastings was staged by English Heritage on the original battlefield. Re-enactors came to take part in the event from all over Europe, Australia, New Zealand and the US. On the weekend just under 2,500 soldiers took the field each day for a two hour battle to mark the 940th anniversary of the battle.
